Weird Al At SPAC: Comedy Meets Energy

Songs for the Restless Heart

On Thursday, July 17, 2025, I took my wife and two sons to see “Weird Al” Yankovic at the Broadview Stage at SPAC in Saratoga Springs, NY. He kicked off the night with Tacky, backed by his expanded eight-piece band, delivering a zany, high-energy blend of parodies and originals—from Smells Like Nirvana and Word Crimes to deep cuts like Skipper Dan The show was packed with costume changes, video interludes, polka medleys, and crowd interactions—Al even walked into the audience to throw his underwear at a lady during One More Minute

Puddles Pity Party opened with haunting, operatic covers in full sad-clown makeup, setting a surreal and unforgettable tone for the evening

Gilligan's Stairway

What starts off sounding like a heartfelt rendition of Stairway to Heaven quickly takes a hilarious left turn…

Opening for Weird Al Yankovic, Puddles Pity Party—the golden-voiced sad clown—pulls the ultimate musical bait-and-switch by blending Led Zeppelin’s classic with the Gilligan’s Island theme song… and absolutely nails it.

Tacky

Weird Al kicked off the night in the most tacky way possible—literally singing his way from the trailer to the stage. The crowd went wild as he opened the show with his hit Tacky, setting the perfect tone for an unforgettable performance.

Polkamania!

Weird Al doing what he does best—turning modern hits into polka gold.
Here’s a short clip  where he squeezes Billie Eilish’s Bad Guy and Adele’s Hello into his epic medley, Polkamania! Ridiculous, but catchy.

One More Minute

His timeless breakup ballad One More Minute with full dramatic flair—and yes, at one point he whips out a pair of red heart boxers and tosses them into the crowd. Classic. A breakup anthem for the ages, Weird Al-style

Smells Like Nirvana

Weird Al goes full 90s for “Smells Like Nirvana,” performing in full Kurt Cobain garb —complete with anarchy cheerleaders and a janitor roaming the stage. A spot-on tribute to one of his most iconic parodies.

All About The Pentiums

I’ve loved this song since it first dropped in 1999, back when I was in school studying computer programming. All About the Pentiums instantly became my nerd anthem—an over-the-top, brilliantly hilarious tribute to late-90s tech obsession. Weird Al perfectly captured the spirit of those years: maxing out RAM, living for dial-up, and flexing every geeky credential possible.

Hearing it live as part of the classics medley  was pure nostalgia. For me, it was a trip back to a time when sound cards and zip drives ruled the world—at least in our basements and computer labs.

Of course, White & Nerdy eventually took over as my go-to geek jam, but Pentiums will always be the original anthem of my inner techie.

Bedrock Anthem

As part of his classics medley, Weird Al launched into a quick but hard-rocking rendition of Bedrock Anthem! Not sure if the younger crowd caught the Flintstones reference, but he still brought some prehistoric heat.

Fat

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Weird Al concert without Fat—his iconic parody of Michael Jackson’s Bad. Al hit the stage in the full fat suit, and the crowd lost it. Classic Weird Al energy, hilarious visuals, and a performance that absolutely brought the house down.

Skipper Dan

I didn’t expect Weird Al to perform Skipper Dan—what an awesome surprise! I’ve loved this song since it came out, mostly because of my obsession with all things early-2000s (and earlier) Disney. Seeing it live gave me the perfect chance to sing along with a hidden gem that hits a little too close to home.

Ebay

When Weird Al broke into “eBay,” my lady and I lit up—it’s her favorite! We always sing along, especially when he nails that high note: “I’m highest bidddeeer!”  It’s such a ridiculous, catchy parody. Always a good time.

Amish Paradise

One of the night’s biggest highlights—Weird Al tore into “Amish Paradise” as one of his pre-encore closers, and the crowd lost it. The whole band was decked out in full Amish attire (beards and all), and Al delivered the performance with serious intensity. Parody perfection.

The Saga Begins

Weird Al closed the show on a Star Wars theme with “The Saga Begins”—his Star Wars parody of “American Pie”— and Yoda, decked out in full Jedi robes. While it’s not my personal favorite (not big on Star Wars or the original song), there’s no denying Al’s commitment to the bit and the music. The crowd loved it, and the performance was pure Weird Al showmanship.
