Meeting Arthur Morgan And Roger Clark

Meeting Arthur Morgan And Roger Clark

Only 50 Gorillas!

I had the pleasure of meeting Roger Clark—the man behind one of the most memorable performances in video game history: Arthur Morgan from Red Dead Redemption 2.

He opened with a joke about the “100 men vs. 1 gorilla” meme, sizing me up and saying it would only take 50 of me to win. It was the perfect icebreaker—goofy, casual, and completely disarming.

I told him about my son, Chase, who loves RDR2 so much he’s played it through multiple times and really connected with his character. More importantly, I got to thank Roger for the incredible emotional depth he brought to Arthur, especially across both the good and bad endings. It’s rare that a game character feels truly human—but Arthur does.

While I can’t say for sure how much my words registered, I’d like to think they meant something. Most people around me were asking about Xbox vs. PlayStation. I just wanted to acknowledge the kind of performance that lingers long after the credits roll.

I left with a photo, an autograph for Chase, and a memory that’ll stick with me for a long time. Roger Clark was gracious, funny, and exactly what you’d hope the voice of Arthur Morgan would be: a good man trying his best.
